This wood has a tendency to have voids and to crack. . At the base, you can see dark staining in the cracks, the result of weathering probably years before I got the wood. So far, I've stuck to leaving those features open to view and without embellishment. I like to do my part and let Nature do hers.

I can only turn this wood from late fall to early spring because of the aromatic nature of the camphor oil. After turning, and once the piece has thoroughly dried, you have to stick your nose in it to small it.
